Today marks the beginning of the 100-day countdown to the start of the London Olympics. The hugely-anticipated event will be kicked off in style on 27th July 2012 with the official Opening Ceremony, directed by the UK’s very own Oscar-winning film director, Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire). To get the country all fired up in the meantime, the Olympic Torch Relay begins in one month today, with the torch arriving in the UK from Greece on May 18th, and beginning its tour of the entire country on May 19th.

Our language schools and especially our English students from all around the world currently studying in England and Scotland are looking forward to welcoming the torch into their towns and cities along the way; the flame will be passing through Totnes on 20th May, Bristol on 22nd – 23rd May, Liverpool on 1st June, Edinburgh on 13th June, Manchester on 23rd June, Great Yarmouth on 5th July, Cambridge on 7th – 8th July, Oxford on 9th – 10th July, Bournemouth on 13th – 14th July, Brighton on 16th – 17th July,  Worthing on 16th July, Margate on 19th July and finally London from 21st – 27th July, finishing up at the Opening Ceremony at the Olympic Stadium in the east of London. Most of the larger cities will hold evening celebrations to mark the torch passing through their streets, so this spring and summer promises to be one long party in the UK!

Tomorrow, Saturday 7th April, up to 250,000 spectators will line the River Thames to cheer on either Oxford or Cambridge in the annual Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race.
